We loved her during her 10-year run as Monica Gellar-Bing on Friends and one thing is for sure, Courtney Cox has great comedic acting chops -- but can she do drama as well?

Dirt Synopsis

Ever wondered how the paparazzi seem to have the knack to find those celebrities at their absolute worst? FX Network's Dirt brings viewers inside the highly competitive and often disturbing world of tabloid journalism. Lucy Spiller (Cox), editor-in-chief of both Dirt and Now magazines, is willing to stop at nothing and stomp on everyone to get the truth about some of the world's biggest celebrities. Her partner-in-crime is the schizophrenic photographer Don Konkey (played by Ian Hart), who seems to have the knack for catching the best shots in the business. Watch as Lucy and Don wreak lives and determine the fate of the rich and famous -- you won't be sorry you did!

Bonus Features

All 13 Season One episodes, plus:
  • Celebrity Couple Gets Dirty: Courtney Cox, David Arquette and the cast and crew of Dirt discuss the evolution of the show and how FX took a chance on the show after 2 years of development.

  • Through A Lens, Darkly: A profile on Dirt’s resident photographer/schizophrenic and how his struggle with reality is a metaphor for the larger issues the show addresses regarding culture and celebrity.

  • Tabloid Wars: Totally True Stories from the Celebrity Trenches: Interviews with the cast and crew of Dirt and leading real life tabloid gurus (Perez Hilton, Peter Bart of Variety, and more) explore what happens when an appetite for celebrity gossip becomes stalkerazzi overkill. They'll also discuss where Dirt gets it right and where they take creative license.

Is This Series Worth Your Precious Viewing Time?

What I find wonderful about the FX Network is that TPTB (the powers that be) of a series can take greater creative license than the major networks, therefore allowing them to take a no-holds barred approach in story telling. I think for the most part, the various series on FX attracts a more targeted audience and not just the average television viewer. Dirt has met with mixed reviews and many feel that this is the type of series you either love or hate. In my opinion, this series appeals to a select audience who are deeply curious about the world of tabloid journalism and/or looking for an edgy drama to counteract some of the fluff the major networks put out every year. It took me for than two episodes to begin appreciating all this series has to offer. The best piece of advice I can give is for viewers to at the very least try two or three episodes before forming an opinion of this series.

Is this DVD Worth Your Hard-Earned Cash?

Fans of this series will absolutely love this DVD, but even if you're not a big fan of the series, the bonus features (especially the Tabloid Wars) will certainly entertain even the most skeptical viewer. Courtney Cox proves that her dramatic acting skills are just as highly toned as her comedic chops, so if you tune in for no other reason than to see if "Monica Gellar-Bing" can act beyond Friends, you won't be disappointed.
